Thanks for the reply! I used a Garmin Edge 1000, but I used to have the Edge 810 which I liked almost as well. Bother are out of production but you can get them used. I used locking wheel skewers and a short cable lock. That is just a deterrent that will stop most theft. I brought a solar panel and a battery. The batteries were fast charging Quick Charge 3.0, and so was my phone, so that was enough, no need for a solar panel, really. I will check your blog out, too!

Very nice description of your recent ride from Santa Cruz to Monterey. I'm prepping to bike my very first extended ride this Sept/Oct from Oregon to San Diego, and, as you described, I'm becoming a little too frozen with anxiety by overthinking the details instead of enjoying the process. Fact is, I've been a road biker for years and am less comfortable touring, but I'm looking forward to taking on the challenge and slowing the pace. What GPS did you end up buying? Was it helpful? I bought printed maps from the ACA for my entire PC Route, and I've been reading that having the two sources to guide me would be the way to go. What about security? I'm planning on taking a U-bolt lock and a cable for quick in-and-outs. Also, what did you do to recharge your electronics? I'm thinking of taking a battery instead of going solar, but haven't made up my mind. Thanks, in advance, for the input. Love your site. Here's mine that I'll be using to blog this fall if you'd like to follow me.

I think they were. Raccoons seem to be the biggest problem critters at campgrounds along the coast. Although the blue jays at Big Sur where super aggressive too. There were posters warning about raccoons at most parks. I have a supposedly scent proof bag. It looks like it worked. I kept food in it and it never got pilfered.

That's awesome! I'm enjoying the content. Didnt realize I was looking at the coast until you pointed it out in the pic. Looked like you packed relatively light as well. I do feel this does help a lot of people like you intended. Keep blogging man
